ExPC workshop project with students of Gymnazium Jana Keplera, Prague, Czechia, September 2024

This project, generously supported by Unijazz and Access, took place throughout the last week of September with 8 selected artists/musicians and a group of students of the Gymnazium Jana Keplera. Over this period I worked with a dedicated group of 4 students to develop an interactive installation work that would be built from electronic waste and feature sounds we collected, plus light and movement.

The results were unveiled during a final presentation event on Sunday 29th to a large group of the public and we could finally appreciate what we had achieved in such a short time.

The slideshow to the left shows various shots from the project development.

The first three images were taken by Anna Baštýřová.

The sessions began with us making some field recordings of various parts of the school and grounds, which were to be used to trigger motors. However as we collected so many speakers from the electronic waste donated to the project, we incorporated them into the work also.

Sadly certain parts of the work stopped functioning just before the final presentation, which was rather disappointing, but the lights that responded to sound worked so well that the public could interact with the work and it also started to interact with the musicians in the grand finale - so finally we were able to join the rest of the group and be integral to this part of the event!

I want to thank Karel, Matěj, Jakob and Lukaš for their hard work and dedication to the project - it really was their creation, not mine. We even worked both days of the weekend to get it finished for the final presentation and it was hard work but so much fun!

Thanks also to the other artists involved, Unijazz and Access, and Jana and Anna, the teachers who were our main support within the school.
